Digital personal data protection

Prepare your business
for practical DPDP
implementation.

Translate India’s digital personal data framework into a programme your product, privacy and technology teams can operate. CyberVantage360 helps you map the work, prepare the controls and build evidence around the obligations and commencement dates relevant to your organisation.

Purpose, people and processing

Follow personal data
through the business.

An app registration, a payroll record and an outsourced support interaction raise different implementation questions. We help your team identify why data is used, who makes the decisions and which systems or processors carry them out. That foundation makes notices, retention decisions and operational responsibilities more useful.

The Act’s scope concerns digital personal data processing in India and specified processing outside India connected with offering goods or services to people in India, subject to its provisions and exclusions. It is not framed simply around Indian citizenship. Applicability and exemptions need to be assessed against the actual activity.

A phased framework. The DPDP Rules, 2025 are final, not the earlier consultation draft. Their commencement is staggered: some rules began on publication, Rule 4 follows after one year, and the main operational group follows after eighteen months. The Act has a separate commencement notification. As at 13 October 2026, avoid treating all substantive duties as already in force; maintain an obligation-by-obligation implementation calendar.
What you receive

Move from interpretation
to implementation.

Give each workstream an owner, an output and an acceptance test before buying another privacy tool.

01

A processing and applicability record

Map personal data, purposes, channels, users and processors for the agreed business services. Identify the decisions requiring legal interpretation and record their basis. Separate current obligations from preparation for provisions that have not yet commenced.

02

Notice and consent workflows

Translate approved purposes into clear notices and appropriate collection journeys. Specify how the organisation records a decision, changes a purpose, receives a withdrawal and instructs downstream teams. Test the user journey and the associated records together.

03

Requests, grievances and retention

Design the operational route for access information, correction, erasure, grievance handling and nomination as applicable under the framework. Connect the workflow to system search and retention decisions. Avoid importing a portability promise from a different privacy law without a separate basis.

04

Safeguards and processor accountability

Review access, information sharing, retention, incident escalation and the responsibilities of processors in scope. Turn gaps into a prioritised implementation plan. Prepare an evidence pack showing what was changed, tested and handed over, including unresolved dependencies.

Agree the entities, products, processing activities and technology covered. Specify how legal decisions, product engineering, processor coordination and staff training will be handled, and distinguish consultancy outputs from any statutory audit obligations that may apply.
A practical method

Plan the engagement ↗
01

Map and prioritise

Start with high-volume or operationally complex journeys and identify the people accountable for them. Establish the applicable commencement schedule and decision log, then sequence the changes according to dependencies and practical delivery effort.

02

Implement with the operating teams

Work with product owners, HR, support, procurement and security to create usable procedures and configuration requirements. Walk a request or withdrawal through the systems and processors that must act on it.

03

Review and hand over

Test selected workflows, record deficiencies and verify corrections. Provide owners with a maintenance calendar and change triggers, so a new processor, business purpose or product release prompts an appropriate review after the initial project ends.

Where the work matters

A focused programme
for your operating model.

These illustrative situations show how an engagement can be scoped. They are not claims about named clients or completed projects.

Apps, retail and digital services

An illustrative consumer app has separate onboarding, marketing and support tools. The project tests whether a changed choice reaches each relevant workflow and whether the support team can explain the outcome from the retained records.

Employment and shared services

An illustrative group centralises recruitment and payroll across several entities. The work establishes who controls each processing activity, who responds to a request and how records retained for other obligations are handled.

Healthcare, education and outsourcing

An illustrative provider handles records across a portal and an external support team. The programme examines sensitive operating contexts, relevant sector rules and any children’s-data implications, without assuming that one generic notice resolves every issue.

Questions worth asking

Scope the work
with confidence.

Are the DPDP Rules still only a proposal?

No. Final Rules were published in November 2025, followed by a corrigendum. Their commencement is phased, and the Act’s commencement notification must also be considered. The project should track the actual provisions and dates rather than use a single blanket effective date.

Does the framework apply only to Indian citizens?

No. The statutory scope is connected to where and how digital personal data is processed and, for specified overseas processing, the offering of goods or services to people in India. The activity, exclusions and applicable provisions require assessment.

Must every organisation appoint the same privacy roles?

No. Determine the organisation’s role, applicable provisions and any designation-specific obligations. The implementation should give every operational action an accountable owner without claiming that additional statutory requirements for a particular category apply universally.

Can existing GDPR documentation be reused?

Inventories and operational evidence can be useful starting material. Legal grounds, rights, notices, definitions and commencement need a DPDP-specific review. Reusing a template without that review can create commitments or procedures that do not fit the Indian framework.

What will we have at the end of the engagement?

The agreed outputs may include a processing map, decision log, prioritised plan, workflow designs, implementation evidence and staff guidance. A readiness review identifies open gaps and owners. Completion of consulting does not remove the need to operate and maintain the programme.

Start with the data you actually use.

Share your products, processing locations and current privacy arrangements. We will help define a practical DPDP readiness and implementation scope.
