Global customer assurance. Local delivery ownership.

SOC 2 readiness for Indian technology and delivery teams.

A customer request for SOC 2 needs to become clear work for the people operating your service. CyberVantage360 helps Indian organisations define scope, establish controls and organise evidence for an independent CPA examination. Build a readiness plan that respects product releases, delivery responsibilities and customer commitments.

Start with the operating decision

Start with what your team delivers and controls.

An Indian SaaS business may own its platform end to end. A capability centre or outsourced delivery team may depend on group or customer systems. Map those responsibilities before applying a control template. The same job title can involve very different access, approval and evidence obligations.

AICPA's SOC reporting resources describe assurance over service-organisation controls. Identify the relevant service commitments and proposed report, then ask owners to show how the controls operate. A readiness review should reveal implementation gaps rather than simply collect policy files.

Confirm the assurance request with the recipient and independent CPA firm. Type 1 addresses a specified date; Type 2 also examines operation over a period. That distinction affects when evidence must exist and how the work is scheduled.

India context

Connect overseas customer requirements with Indian operations.

For a delivery operation serving customers in other time zones, incident communication and access approval can depend on people outside India. Record the escalation route, deputy responsibilities and information needed to make a decision. An unanswered message should not become the default authorisation process.

Keep customer assurance and legal obligations separately owned. The SOC 2 readiness programme can organise facts about systems, data and controls, while privacy and legal owners determine applicable Indian and overseas requirements. Do not present the eventual report as a universal legal-compliance decision.

Use staff onboarding, project reassignment and release changes as discovery examples. These events show whether the control design fits the pace and organisation of the delivery team.

Agreed outputs

Give delivery managers a clear implementation backlog.

The proposal names the outputs, responsible teams and evidence needed to demonstrate progress.

01

Customer and scope brief

Identify the service, legal entity, intended users and report expectations. Separate local operations from group or customer dependencies.

02

Control ownership and gap plan

Review actual delivery controls, prioritise weaknesses and assign remediation. Define observable completion criteria instead of relying on policy approval alone.

03

Evidence workflow

Identify records from development, workforce, IT and support processes. Agree ownership, review frequency and a method for retaining evidence without collecting unnecessary customer data.

04

Examination preparation pack

Organise the system description, evidence index and unresolved questions. Prepare control owners to explain the process and respond accurately to the CPA firm.

Practical implementation

Build evidence collection into normal work.

Select a recent production change or customer onboarding and follow it through the delivery tools. Check whether approvals, testing, access decisions and follow-up are retrievable. Use existing records where reliable; repair the underlying workflow when evidence gaps reflect missing actions.

Agree realistic checkpoints with delivery leaders. Client implementation effort, consulting support, specialist remediation and CPA examination fees should be visible separately. Avoid planning an examination period around controls that have not yet begun to operate.

Illustrative operating decisions

Two Indian service-delivery decisions.

Hypothetical examples, not client case studies or claims of completed engagements.

A Hyderabad SaaS team prepares for enterprise procurement

A hypothetical Hyderabad company has strong engineering practices but scattered evidence across development and support tools. An enterprise customer requests SOC 2 for the hosted product, including the customer-support function.

The readiness work identifies the actual service boundary and connects access, change and incident records to named owners. The team tests whether a reviewer can reconstruct a recent release without relying on the developer's memory or an informal chat history.

A Chennai delivery centre uses group-controlled infrastructure

A hypothetical Chennai operation provides application support using infrastructure managed overseas. Local managers assign people and approve emergency support, while the parent controls production permissions.

The programme clarifies how those approvals connect to provisioning and removal. Evidence responsibilities are agreed with the parent, and an escalation test exposes gaps when the overseas approver is unavailable. The description does not imply local control of infrastructure the team cannot administer.

Independent examination

Keep readiness and the CPA examination clear.

Our work covers consulting and readiness; a licensed independent CPA firm issues the SOC 2 report. Agree examination scope, independence and charges directly in the engagement arrangements. Readiness support cannot guarantee the examiner's opinion.

Before you commission the work

Set realistic expectations for the engagement.

Can an Indian service organisation obtain a SOC 2 report?

Discuss the service and required examination with an appropriately licensed independent CPA firm. Readiness should address the actual delivery model and control responsibilities.

Is a fixed six-month project required?

No single project duration follows from the country or business label. Scope, remediation, report type and the agreed evidence period determine the plan.

Can customer-owned applications be included in discovery?

Yes. Identify how your staff use them, the responsibilities retained by your organisation and evidence available from the customer. Do not imply ownership of controls you do not operate.

Will policy templates make us ready?

Policies need implementation, ownership and supporting records. Use templates only where they accurately describe the service and required actions.

Can the project fit around product releases?

Plan readiness work with release owners and identify dependencies early. Material changes may affect the scope, description or evidence and should be reviewed with the CPA firm.

What should we prepare for scoping?

Provide the customer request, service boundary, key systems, delivery locations, major suppliers and existing control records. Identify the leaders who can assign implementation resources.
